INNOVATION SANDBOX
The Innovation Sandbox is an initiative by the Law Society of British Columbia to improve access to justice by improving access to legal advice and assistance. The goal of the Innovation Sandbox is to develop effective legal service providers to address the legal needs of those BC citizens who do not get legal help or get it from someone other than a lawyer.
Virgin Law Group is pleased to employ two designated paralegals who have been approved through the Law Society of BC’s Innovation Sandbox to provide services to the public without lawyer supervision.
The following Virgin Law Group paralegals have been approved by the Law Society of BC in the Innovation Sandbox, and offer the following services as employees of Virgin Law Group:
ANDREA ABBINANTE
Providing legal services through Virgin Law Group in civil litigation matters, focusing primarily in the area of plaintiff personal injury, including:
- Representing personal injury clients in their claim for accident benefits, including Enhanced Care Benefits, with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, including representation at the Civil Resolution Tribunal.
- Representing personal injury clients in their claim for accident benefits and damages with insurance companies other than ICBC, including:
- Drafting court documents and legal correspondence.
- Negotiating on behalf of clients.
- Conducting legal research.
- Attending tribunal and court hearings (trial management conferences, chambers applications – with permission of the court).
- Providing legal coaching services to personal injury and general civil litigation clients, including:
- Assisting clients with understanding the court system.
- Reviewing legal work done by clients and providing feedback.
- Assisting clients in making decisions on procedure and strategy.
- Providing legal advice (within parameters; complex matters will be referred to lawyers at Virgin Law Group).
- Guiding clients through the legal process.
- Conducting legal research, providing links to cases to clients, and helping clients understand the rules applicable to their case.
- Assisting clients to prepare and attend their own court matters and mediations.
- Providing clients with resources to assist them in handling their matter.
MICHÈLE ROSS
Providing family law advice offered through Virgin Law Group, including legal research, document preparation, negotiations, and representation for matters before court, including:
- Processing desk order divorces.
- Providing legal advice (within parameters; complex matters will be referred to lawyers at Virgin Law Group).
- Drafting court documents.
- Negotiating on behalf of clients.
- Providing information on the amount of child support and spousal support (utilizing DivorceMate software).
- Conducting legal research.
- Attending court (judicial case conferences, trial management conferences, chambers applications) with permission of the court.
- Coaching self-represented litigants in family matters including:
- Assisting clients with understanding the court system.
- Reviewing legal work done by clients and providing feedback.
- Assisting clients in making decisions on procedure and strategy.
- Providing legal advice based on the parameters outlined above.
- Guiding clients through the legal process.
- Conducting legal research, providing links to cases to clients and helping clients understand the rules applicable to their case.
- Assisting clients to prepare and attend their own court matters and mediations.
- Providing clients with resources to assist them in handling their matter.
